I honestly don’t see how island captures are supposed to vary. This is thrilling as you figure the game out, but then it just gets repetitive. Clear out any boats with torpedoes fired from the carrier at 10km out, run recon with a high-altitude Albatross, clobber everything on the island with your carrier’s guns and cruise missiles, then roll in the Seals. But so far, there seems to be one right way to play, and you’ll repeat it for every island you capture. I haven’t gone up against many tougher islands, mainly because something always falls apart because a) it’s broken or b) it’s undocumented, so I just start over and I’m back to fighting one- and two-shield islands.

My concern about Carrier Command 2 is that this is not the case. Obviously that’s only a rough outline and can vary a lot. If there are Swordfish, for example, I concentrate 100% on taking those out first as a single boat can easily protect an island against my vehicles.Īlso, while I’m still learning how everything works I am restarting quite often so I haven’t seen the 3- or 4-star islands yet. I find that if I destroy the majority of defenses in quick succession not long before the Seals arrive, they tend to encounter little resistance. Since they take a while to reach their destination I will take the time to fly some more air units out to take out more defenses, and then I’ll have an Albatross fly overhead at high altitude to spot for my carrier gun. Then I’ll send a Seal group, typically one with virus bombs, two with guns and one with missiles.

Then I’ll have it take out as many as it can before it runs out of ordnance. Very roughly, I will fly an Albatross over the island with a gimballed camera to spot targets. So there’s no point just sitting back and picking them off - an alpha strike is generally what works for me. From what I’ve observed, islands will continue to replenish their defenses over time.
